A question that gets asked all the time is what type of diet is the best and which one should a person choose? With so many fad diets and magic pills promising you 30 pounds of fat loss in 30 days or 20 pounds of muscle in a month, it’s hard to know what to follow. The first step is to realize that success comes only once you understand the definition of a diet.
Many people believe that going on a diet consist of eating healthy for a couple months and then going back to their normal diet. This is physically not possible and if you want to keep the body you worked so hard to earn you have to consider the diet as a lifestyle change, not just a fad thing that magic pills will have you believe.
Now when it comes to losing weight or gaining weight it’s just a simple matter of eating over maintenance or under it. A diet that simple will work but it will also not be the best option possible. Your body’s fuel comes from 3 main sources, carbohydrates (carbs), fats, and protein. Getting in the correct ratio of these 3 fuel sources is the best way to get optimal results. So when it comes to low fat or low carbs, I actually say either way works.
Pick A diet Plan And Stick With It!
Just stick to one and you will see results. Carbs are usually your body’s first source of energy and simple carbs such as sugars can be used for a short burst of energy. How low carb diets work is that if your body simply doesn’t have as many carbs, it will start to use fat as it’s source of energy, which is why a low carb diet has more fat and protein in it. A low fat diet means that there is a lot of carbs in the diet.
These carbs are used as fuel and without any fat in the diet, when your body does run out of carbs it will be more likely to use fat or protein as fuel. Either way fat will be burned and both work out but everyone is different so try a couple weeks on both to see what works the best for you, then stick with it.
Also remember to stick with a deficit that isn’t too low, like 1300 calories under maintenance since this will end up putting your body in starvation mode, which can make you store excess fat whenever you eat enough food. Eating slightly below maintenance consistently is the best way to go on a diet, and slightly above for a good slow bulk.
Low Carb Diet Or Low Fat Diets?
Without further ado, here’s some of my bro science for your entertainment. Humans in the Neolithic era have been around for a little over 100,000 years. Now I’m no proponent of living and eating like a caveman (Paleo diet) but I mean, it can’t hurt to look on our past right?
Agriculture has only been around for 10,000 years or so. So in theory, without agriculture there wasn’t any bread and legumes, aka high carb foods. Humans probably relied on a high fat and high protein diet with carbs that derive from vegetables in the wild. Kind of like the broccoli and stuff we eat today, but the much healthier non domesticated crap we eat today. It that’s true, then maybe our bodies aren’t used to eating such high amounts of carbs and that it why it’s being stored as fat on our bodies. So if this bro science works, then maybe a low carb diet will work better than the low fat diet for us.
Anyways, it’s been proven tons of times that both diets works as long as you eat less than maintenance so stick to one! Thanks for reading Low Carb vs Low Fat Diets.
